Physical Activities Center – Furman University

The Furman University project consisted of comprehensive renovations to the existing Physical Activities Center and included both architectural and MEP systems.  An initial goal of the project was realized with the achievement of LEED NC V2.2 Silver Certification.  HVAC system improvements included a new chilled water bridge/crossover with parallel 2-way valves and variable flow chilled water distribution.  In order to achieve the most efficient use of water resources, new plumbing fixtures were installed featuring low-flow water closets, lavatories, and shower heads. The energy model developed for this building also included utilization of the existing array of solar panels for pool water heating.  This resulted in a considerable energy savings on the gas-fired hot water boilers which are also used to heat the building.  The facility includes a swimming pool, a basketball court, a dance studio and a racquetball court.
